House F is located in a small Greek city in Peloponnese and was made for a family of three who needed to find some privacy without losing their contact to nature. That is why House F is turned inward having minimum contact with the road but offers a free flow between interior and the garden at the same time. The L shape of the floorplan embraces the garden in a way that every room of the main house’s interior has an unobstructed access to it. The building consists of the main house on the ground floor – with two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom and wc – and an independent guest room on the first floor with its own living room and bathroom as long as a private veranda. All the rooms have large window screens to enjoy the Messenian sun and air as much as possible.
The architecture of the building is distinguished from its geometric simplicity which is composed of three volumes and a canopy that embraces the volumes and highlights the introverted character of the building.
Except for the functionality and the introversion, another important aspect of the design was the creation of a healthy environment in the interior of the house as well as an eco-friendly construction. That is why breathable and natural materials were chosen such as stone, wood and lime plaster. At the same time bioclimatic principles were applied to offer maximum energy efficiency in coordination with the elimination of thermal bridges and the ventilation system with energy recovery. All systems and materials were chosen to offer thermal comfort with the minimum carbon footprint.
